https://www.bilketa.eus/ark:/27020/ASJU-9867Elordieta, ArantzazuASJU, 98672010-02-21In this article I discuss two instances of V-doubling in Basque which display a dialectal distribution: (1) synthetic V-doubling in V-focalization contexts and (2) generalised V-doubling in V-topicalization contexts. The former is found in the western dialect, whereas the latter is used across dialects. Drawing from the fact that V-focalization induces all sorts of island effects, whereas V-topicalization is only sensitive to adjunct islands, I propose that movement is only involved in V-focalization, but not in V-topicalization.
