Face à la forte baisse de la transmission des langues régionales en France entre parents et enfants, l’école joue aujourd’hui un rôle majeur. S’appuyant sur des entretiens réalisés auprès de parents d’élèves d’ikastolas et d’observations sur plusieurs années de certaines familles et sur la documentation de ces écoles immersives, cet article appréhende tout d’abord, l’institutionnalisation progressive de l’enseignement en langue basque en France, en saisissant les relations entre les pouvoirs publics et la fédération des parents d’élèves d’ikastolas. Nous interrogeons ensuite ce qui a motivé ces parents à inscrire leurs enfants dans ce type d’écoles.</dc:description><dc:description>This article sheds light on the mobilisation of parents of pupils in Basque language immersion schools (ikastolas) in the French Basque Country with a view to revalorising the language. Faced with a sharp decline in the intergenerational transmission of regional languages in France, schools now play a major role. Based on interviews with parents of ikastolas pupils as well as documentation from these immersive schools and observations carried out over several years on a number of the families, this article first reveals the progressive institutionalisation of Basque language teaching in France by examining the relations between the public authorities and the federation of ikastolas parent groups.
