Across languages, electrophysiologicalstudies consistently report that the presence of amismatch yields late positive effects (P600),often preceded by early negativities. The current study focuses on person agreement inBasque to investigate whether online processing routines are modulated by the relativesemantic prominence of nominal and verbal person features. In an event-related potentialsexperiment in Basque, we manipulated the semantic markedness of nominal and verbalperson features, creating 1st (marked) and 3rd (unmarked) person correct and incorrectsentences [Japoniarrok1pl euskara ikasi dugu1pl/*dute3pl gustora (We Japanese have1pl/*3pl learnBasque with pleasure); Japoniarrek3pl euskara ikasi dute3pl/*dugu1pl gustora (The Japanesehave3pl/*1pl learnt Basque with pleasure)]. Both mismatches elicited an N400 effect, but onlymarked 1st person mismatches (Japoniarrok1pl … *dute3.pl) generated a P600, suggesting that(i) mismatches with unmarked 3rd person subjects (Japoniarrek3.pl … *dugu1.pl) are not treatedas outright violations; (ii) the emergence of late positive effects is sensitive to fine-graineddiscourse information. Overall, these results call for a revision in the analysis of agreementrelations from a theoretical and a processing perspective.</dc:description><dc:identifier>https://hal.science/hal-04582348</dc:identifier><dc:identifier>https://hal.science/hal-04582348v1/file/ManciniEtAl_OKEK_R1.pdf</dc:identifier><dc:format>Article de journal | Aldizkari bateko artikulua</dc:format><dc:relation>vignette : https://www.bilketa.eus/in/rest/Thumb/image?id=ark:/27020/hal-04582348&amp;mat=articleNum</dc:relation><dc:language>eng</dc:language><dc:rights>Archive ouverte HAL | HAL artxibo irekia</dc:rights><dc:subject>Basque, Agreement, Person, P600, N400</dc:subject><dc:subject>Basque agreement person P600 N400</dc:subject><dc:subject>Euskara (hizkuntza)</dc:subject><dc:subject>Langue basque</dc:subject><dc:subject>agreement</dc:subject><dc:subject>person</dc:subject><dc:subject>P600</dc:subject><dc:subject>N400</dc:subject><dc:subject>[SCCO]Cognitive science</dc:subject><dc:title>Accord et illusion de désaccord : Une étude ERP sur le basque</dc:title><dc:title>Agreement and illusion of disagreement: An ERP study on Basque</dc:title></oai_dc:dc></metadata></record></GetRecord></OAI-PMH>
