This long period of our history was mostly built on lithic industries models with limited consideration for evidence of other technical and cultural practices, like colouring material. Base on the selection of raw colouring material during Gravettian, we attempted to identify technical choice in graphic production as social distinction criteria for Gravettian human groups in Northern Spain (Basque Land). By using multi-proxy methodology applied to raw coloring materials (earth pigments) found in 4 caves of the Lea Valley in the Basque Land, we identify specific selection (taste) in the diversity of material available in the environment. These observation of specific taste for raw material are not yet enough to propose a new perception of social organization during Gravettian, but it open a new reflection in this field of research disconnected from the symbolic paradigm.</dc:description><dc:identifier>https://shs.hal.science/halshs-04061524</dc:identifier><dc:identifier>https://shs.hal.science/halshs-04061524v1/file/c_chanteraud_poster_saa_March2023.pdf</dc:identifier><dc:format>Actes de conférence | Mintzaldietako aktak</dc:format><dc:relation>vignette : https://www.bilketa.eus/in/rest/Thumb/image?id=ark:/27020/halshs-04061524&amp;mat=articleNum</dc:relation><dc:language>eng</dc:language><dc:rights>http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/Archive ouverte HAL | HAL artxibo irekia</dc:rights><dc:coverage>Portland, United States</dc:coverage><dc:subject>colouring material</dc:subject><dc:subject>petrography</dc:subject><dc:subject>Gravettian</dc:subject><dc:subject>Culture</dc:subject><dc:subject>Tradition</dc:subject><dc:subject>Arkeologia eta historiaurrea</dc:subject><dc:subject>Archéologie et préhistoire</dc:subject><dc:title>Taste for colours in Basque country during Upper Palaeolithic - Integrative approach to contextualise rock art.</dc:title></oai_dc:dc></metadata></record></GetRecord></OAI-PMH>
